evaluation of shoot 4 + photoshoot

we've managed another shoot and got alot of footage of simone lip singing and hopefully that will be enough for our video but we will only know once we go back to the editing suit. i thought it wud be a good idea to have a photoshoot at the same time as the artist is there and she is dressed well which would come in handy once were making out digipack, ive managed to get a few quality photos here's a few of them...

insufficent footage...

the footage we captured doesnt seem to be enough and we have spotted alot of gaps and we think we will need to carry out another shoot.we realised that the footage has alot of dancing and hardly any miming from the artist simone.we consulted our director about this issue and have decided there is a need for an additional shoot,

editing the music video...

we have started logging and capturing the video, theres alot of footage to work with and we need to produce the video to the higest standard possible wich means some of the footage is un suitable.the start of the video will be footsteps and we have decided to have the eding credits at the end.

SHOOTING FINISHED!

we finally managed to fininsh the shootinga and have hopefully gathered all the footage that we need and can now proceed to the next step of editing the music video. we did this as a team and we have learnt alot through this, we managed to keep all quarells and arguments outside of shooting and were all united and focused during shooting which made it a huge success.simone our lead dancer has been faboulous and very co-operative and without her we wouldnt be able to have a music video.

evaluation of shoot 3

this shoot was a success, due to the fact that we were more organised and had everything ready. we all did our roles effectively and the dancers were on time.eventhough the repetitive shooting of scenes had the dancers tired we managed to gather alot of important footage.

artist problems :(

the person who was meant to play princess landa has pulled out unfortunatley, however simone our lead dancer has agreed to be princess landa.

OUR MAIN DANCER/ARTIST SIMONE:

evaluation of shoot 1 and 2

Filming in Beech proved to be an invaluable experience for us in terms of the lesson learnt, looking over the footage that we captured within the editing suite it became quite apparent to us that none of the footage we shot was any use to us and this was due to a number of reasons. The black backdrop curtains proved to be an unneccessary effect due to the fact that whilst editing it was not possible to create the black and white scheme that we were hoping to insert within our video as the whole screen would just turn black and none of the dancers, artist faces would show.

Our initial idea of having three cameras also proved to be an ineffective and time wasting strategy, this was because it took us a long time to switch between tapes and therefore delayed our editing process. We have now decided to stay with one tape and also decided to change the shoot of our next location to the green screen room as it will be much easier to edit and also much easier to capture footage with.

Types of camera shots that we will be using...

We will be using a numerous amount of various different camera shots in the filming of our music video but the main ones will be:

1) Mid-shots: Due to the fact the media suite in which we are filming is not of a sufficient enough size for us to have long shots, we have had to settle with mid shots in order for the green screen behind the artist and dancers to appear fully.

2) Close-ups: Close ups will be used in the filming of our music video to provide a much more seductive and attractive edge to the video, having close ups will also us to make the artist pose in various ways such as licking her lips in order to be in line with the conventions of the music industry regarding female artists.

3) Mid close-ups: The mid close ups will be used to highlight the artists costumes which will attract our target market as we are going to dress her up in well known designer brands that our target market will be able to relate to.

location

DRAMA HALL/BEACHI. the beach seemed like the idea place to shoot the video as its gt already built lighting as well as the fact tat there is alot of space for the dancers

.MEDIA SUIT/GREEN SCREEN
the green screen is an exellent way to shoot the video due to the fact that it makes the edicting alot simpler whereas in beach the editing wouldnt be as good quality,

Why use green screen?
The reason as to why green screen is so popular (especially now with new developing technology) is because the location/setting is changeable through the use of digital software.

marketing aims for the music video..

Marketing Aims for Music Video

Target consumer: Our target consumers will be aged around the 16-25 age range and we have set no limit on ethnicity as reggae is a genre listened to by many.

Unique Selling Point: the usp of our product will be the fatc that the video is in black and white and due to the range of fast edits from diffrent camera angles. and also the edited use od a bit of clolour on certain aspects of the misc en scene

Attention/Awareness: to get the attention of the audiences we have conformed to the idea's usually used in reggae/dancehall of using seductive females with revealing clothing. this is done to attract the attention of the males however it attracts the attenton of the females as the dancers are dominating and shown to be in control.

Interest: We will need to maintain interest in our music video in order to increase the life length of the video and keep it on the market for as long as possible, to do this we will use the USP as a promotional tool which will increase the popularity of the music video and hopefully develop interest for a long duration of time.

Desire: the desire of the music video is to help this unsigned artist find a record company and eventually be succesfull as ive seen alot of potential in her

Product: The finished product will consist of the music video, CD cover and also an MP3 version of the single.

Price: The music video itself will be free for all to consume as it will be uploaded on popular video uploading websites such as YouTube but the single will be priced at around £1.99, the reason for this price is because we will be selling the single online on iTunes and Play.com which are discounted programs and websites therefore we cannot charge a premium price also it is only one song therefore £1.99 seems like a reasonable price.

Place: We will aim to market the music video in inner London as we believe this is where our target market will reside and therefore will provide us with a larger fan base.

Promotion: The majority of our music video will be promoted online as previous research shows that popular social networks such as Facebook, Myspace and Twitter are websites that nearly all of our target consumers use and therefore it only seems right we go where our target consumers are. The advantage to promoting online is the fact that we will be able to target a large amount of consumers/listeners for little or no money being wasted in comparison to promoting on television, billboards and magazines etc.

The cast

The responsibility of arranging the dancers was delegated to layla clearly due to the fact that she had a personal relationship with the dancers.most of them are perfroming arts students from stanmore college so they get credit for performing for our video too, making it a win-win situation.

Here are the cast being used for our music video:

Dancer 1- Simone (Potential backup artist)

Dancer 2- Zarah

Dancers 3 and 4- Yannick and Chris

DANCER 3: CHRIS

DANCER 4: PAIGE

DANCER 5: KAI

Then title again 'NO TIME FI DEM' in balck and white so that it 'stamps' the meaning of the song/video.

Artist comparisons.

our artist princess landa can be compared to many female artists here's an exmple of a few...

LADY SAW

Lady Saw (born Marion Hall, 12 July 1968, Saint Mary, Jamaica) is a Jamaican reggae singer, known as the queen of dancehall. She is the first female deejay to win a Grammy Award and to be certified as a triple-platinum artist.[citation needed] She is also the first woman to headline dancehall shows outside her native Jamaica. Her new label Divas Records launched in January 2010.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lady_Saw

CE'CILE

Ce'Cile Jamaican reggae artist

ce'cile has broken through reggae and is one of the few artistis to achieve mainstream success. She has performed globally in countries such as USA, Denmark and the Carribean to name a few but also at popular mainstream awards ceremonies such as the MTV Europe Awards.

as you can see from the two artists above that one shows a dominant female personality (lady saw) and her musics more about that too whereas ce'cile is more of a sexual object with the use to low cut tops and revelaing clothing. for princess landa it would be a good idea to have a mixture so we are able to appeal to a wider audiance as the song is showing a dominant female with 'no time fi dem' and if we are able to attract views with some seductive dancers it would make it the perfect mixture.

evaluation of the primary research

the opening question of the questionnaire was, "Do you find seductive and attractive females a good feature in music videos and does it appeal to you as a person?" majority of the people said yes which is a good sign as we intent to have alot of seduction  and attractive females in our video wich conforms with genre as many music videos of this genre have alot of seductive females

the second question was, "Would you say the colour and ethnicity of the artist/ dancers in a music video affects whether or not the music video would be aesthetically attractive to you?"  as anticipated the majority of people said no, so by using an afro caribbean aritist and dancers was not an issue as many dominant reggea/dancehall artist are afro caribbean.

"Reggae music is one that does not attract as much mainstream coverage as other genres, does Reggae music appeal to you as a genre?" not many music channels show reggea videos here in the uk so that was a bit of a worry eventhough thats changing. the responce from the public helped us to see that people do want this sort of music videos on tv.

"Do you think the success of an artist depends on their gender?", the wide responce was 'yes', the reason for this maybe because women are portrayed as sexual objects in the media wich attracts alot of attention. a few examples of this are artists such as beyonce, rhianna, niki minaj and ciara.

"How visually attractive would a black and white music video be in your eyes?",  i really liked the idea of making our music video black and white as i believed it to be a unique selling point as you dont usually see many videos that are black and white. my view was backed up by the results as only 30 people disagreed.

Primary research

we realised that we had to make a music video that would be appealing to our target audiance and not just our prefernces. that is why we decided to conduct a survey with 250 people in areas of kingsbury, wembley and harrow.

here are the results:

Questions and responses:

1) Do you find seductive and attractive females a good feature in music videos and does it appeal to you as a person?

Yes:200
No:50

2) Would you say the colour and ethnicity of the artist/ dancers in a music video affects whether or not the music video would be aesthetically attractive to you?

Yes: 20
No: 230

3) Reggae music is one that does not attract as much mainstream coverage as other genres, does Reggae music appeal to you as a genre?

Yes: 180
No: 70

4) Do you think the success of an artist depends on their gender?

Yes: 20
No: 230

5) How visually attractive would a black and white music video be in your eyes?

Not at all: 10
Just a bit: 20
I wouldn't mind: 100
Quite a bit:60
Very attractive:60

technical rehearsal

we decided that it would be a good idea to have a rehearsal at the location to familiarise our selves with the equipment more and give me a better idea on the angles that the video should be shot at.we took 3 camera's as well as the craine to the performing arts building called 'beech'.this helped us to work out the correct levels of lighting that would be required to make it easier for us when we edit the video and also any problems or glitches that arise and how we could potentially avoid them.

the reason behind using 3 camera's was simply due to the fact that such a upbeat video requires many straight cuts to diffrent angles to keep the viewers interested. we used three different angles and perspectives (left, right and centre) with the centre camera being positioned on a crane to gain much more effective shots such as high angle, low angle and tracking.

from the start we had our hearts set on shooting at beech as it was so perfect for a dance video as there is alot of space and has in built lighting.
