the first meeting....

During our first formal meeting as a group we realised that it was essential to immediately assign the roles required to make this music video a success.we allocated these roles based on personal attributes. we thought it would be suitable for the role of the editor to be given to nawed due to his experience in using the programs and being generally competent with software. The role of the producer was given to derryl and the directors role given to layla, and the role of the cameraman was given to me.we soon realised that the role of the director and the cameraman were closely linked as the creative aspects had to affect how the video was captured.Due to pilimainary reaserch before the formal meeting we detremined that the genre of our music video would be Reggae/Dance hall, therefore we focused on artists who were best suited for this genre.Derryl already knew such an artist personally by the name of princess Landa, an established artist who is well known around the local reggae scene in london. We saw that she has had many live performances as well as having thousands of hits on her youtube page.
this genre originated from jamaica hence it has a large following in the jamaican community.the general style of music has evolved with time as well as the elements of the lyrics.for example it has become more glamorised and the style of music videos seems to be influence by the music videos made by the rap/hip-hop genre.
My role as a cameraman means that i have to reaserch into appropriate camera angles used is previous videos from this genre and also look at how these shots will fit into the lyrics and the music.it is also essiential to time the shots perfectly and make sure there is enough footage so when editing there is room for errors such as continuity errors.
I looked at many music videos from the genre and heres a few that i found interesting and noticed the conventions of the videos and what type of shots and angles are common.

i noticed that the video genre of hip-hop and reggae/dancehall music was similar so this video was also worth looking at.

Ludacris ft niki minaj- my chik bad

i understand that some aspects of these videos are shot infront of a green screen and i also found the shots of the dancers interesting as we plan to have dancers in out video and i found that the shots of the dancers in both videos were very clever.
